New Business:

  • We discussed everything we've researched in the past week so we could compare notes.
  • Éanna broke down the brief so that we could the keep the key points in front of us while brainstorming.
  • We narrowed our region to either Cork, Japan, Indonesia, New Zealand, Turkey or Mexico.
  • If we choose Cork, and designed our AI programme to address flooding, we would have the advantage of living around the locality. We would have an understanding of the local infrastructure, current flooding protocols and the current issues facing the locality because of flooding.
  • If we choose Japan, Indonesia, New Zealand, Turkey or Mexico, we can focus on earthquakes-- a natural disaster with more devastating results.
  • Japan has a highly developed economy and has a lot of highly developed protocols and infrastructure in place already. This could make it difficult to find a way to build on their existing systems.
  • New Zealand is an English speaking country, so resources about it's earthquakes would be available in a language all of us speak. This would make research more efficient.
  • Regardless of the region or natural disaster chosen, the data that will be collected by the AI. It will use image detection based on deep learning. If it detects potential warning signs, it will send out the video information it's collected to a human professional to assess the efficacy. When this warning has been assessed from a human expert, they can trigger a warning protocol that an AI runs based on a pre-programmed series of responses. These responses would come in the form of displaying information on any electronic devices like billboards, phones and street lights. These responses can grab people's attention and provide up-to-date, location-based information. Screens and lights can change colour based on the traffic light system (red, amber, green). This can help guide people to safer areas, for example, by lighting the way with green lights.
