Device Vibration

For those with hearing loss or visual impairment, we needed a way to alert them quickly and efficiently in a way that respects their independence.

Assistive alerting devices are designed to react to alarm situations and are used to let a deaf or hard of hearing person know that some condition is occurring (such as smoke alarm, door bell or baby crying).

  • Amplified ring, flashing light, vibration alert for phone

  • Doorbell, knock and intercom

  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

  • Alarm clock timer and watch

Those with hearing and visual impairment rely heaving on touch. I looked at the type of devices often used to assist those with impairments and found the concept of pager system

Pager Systems ia small telecommunication device that receives radio signals from the paging network. Transmitters in the paging networks broadcast signals over a specific frequency, the transmitters then trigger a vibrating, flashing or audio response to a receiver which alerts the user.

Users with impairment already use this concept in many of their day to day, such as the bellman visit system which alerts users of calls or any visitors with vibration, sound and flashing lights
